Milami primary school director Mr. Michael Otawa has urged parents to embrace the new curriculum arguing that it will help address the high rate of unemployment among youths.
He argued that many youths are unemployed because of lack of skills and that teaching skills to learners from primary level will help in preparing them for the competitive and innovative world.
‘Subjects like Home Science, Agriculture and Art and Craft are directly applicable in the current job market,’ Otawa said.
He raised concern that the current curriculum is very bulky and very few teachers will be able to complete the syllabus because of the limited time brought about by Covid-19.
He challenged the Ministry of Education to consider revising the new curriculum through an annual report analysis so as to understand the various loop holes experienced in the curriculum.
He added that the 100% transition policy is only achievable if both the county and national governments provide essential necessities like food to children in school.
“Some children not only lack fees but also some basic necessities like food,” he said.
