Rongo University lecturers and the Senate have commended the confirmation of Professor Samuel Gudu as the Rongo University Vice-Chancellor.
Addressing the media on phone the Senate expressed satisfaction over the confirmation, saying Prof Gudu qualified for the position having served in various capacities in public universities.
Prof Gudu is a world-renowned scientist and a full Professor of Genetics and Plant Breeding having risen through the ranks from Graduate Assistantship.
The Senate had recommended him for that position as he has over 20years experience in university administration part of which as Ag Vice Chancellor Rongo University, Principal Rongo University College, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Director of Research and Acting Dean, Moi University.
The Professor earned his PhD degree in plant Genesis and Molecular Biology from the University of Guelph, B.Sc.Hons.(Agriculture) and M.Sc.(genetics and Plant Breeding) from University of Nairobi.
Prof Gudu has won several international competitive research grants which have been used to construct laboratory, purchase equipment, train staff and undertake research.
He has published widely in Journals and scientific conferences including technical reports and chapters in books.
He has been a Lead scientist and Co-scientist in regional and international research consortia of University in Ethiopia, Tanzania, Uganda, Brazil, USA, Sweden, China and Kenya.
Professor Gudu was honoured and awarded: Elder of Burning Spear; research leadership by American Bibliographic Institute; geotechnical expertise in review of scientific research proposals by ASARECA and he is a member of American Society of Plant Biologists and International Association of Plant and Soil Interaction at Low pH.
