The Rift Valley Primary and Junior Schools Sports Association has recommended the relocation of the 2026 Regional Sports Championship from Turkana county to Nakuru county following a venue assessment conducted in Lodwar on May 14 and 15.

According to an official communication dated  May 24, 2026, the assessment team established that Turkana County currently does not meet the required threshold in terms of infrastructure and logistical readiness to host the championship.

Speaking on the decision, the Association Secretary Mamai Etiang’ confirmed that the recommendation followed a detailed evaluation of key facilities, including sports grounds, accommodation capacity, transport access and overall preparedness of the host county.

As a result, Nakuru town has been proposed as the new host venue for the championship, scheduled to take place from July 14 to 21, 2026.

The town is considered better prepared due to its established sporting infrastructure and improved capacity to host large-scale school competitions.

The proposed shift is expected to be formally communicated to participating counties and institutions, with preparations now anticipated to focus on Nakuru ahead of the July games.
