Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) centres in Miskwony and neighbouring areas of West Pokot County have received a major boost after the county government distributed new chairs to learners, easing a long-standing shortage of furniture and improving learning conditions in the institutions.
The beneficiaries include ECDE centres in Sawayan, Kachambilwa, Parasinta, Simatwo and Miskwony, where teachers and learners have for years faced challenges associated with inadequate classroom furniture and limited learning resources.
The initiative which is part of the county government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen foundational education under the leadership of Governor Simon Kachapin, in collaboration with area leader Rebecca Kide, aims to improve education infrastructure and create a more conducive learning environment for young learners across the county.
Education stakeholders have welcomed the intervention, noting that proper classroom furniture plays a critical role in enhancing children’s comfort, concentration and participation during lessons. They said suitable seating arrangements contribute significantly to learners’ cognitive, emotional and social development.

Teachers from the affected centres described the support as timely, saying it will help improve classroom organisation and reduce challenges associated with overcrowding and inadequate furniture. They added that the new chairs would enable learners to engage more effectively in classroom activities.
Parents also expressed appreciation for the county government’s intervention, observing that quality early childhood education is essential in laying a strong foundation for future academic success. They noted that improving learning facilities in rural schools helps bridge educational inequalities and promotes equal opportunities for all children.
Rebecca Kide lauded the initiative, saying development efforts should focus on addressing the immediate needs of communities. She reiterated the importance of supporting early learning centres to ensure children access quality education from the earliest stages.
