Lobbying for the positions of Regional Director of Education (RDE) has intensified at the Ministry of Education headquarters after the said positions were rendered vacant recently.
This follows the retirement of Rift Valley RDE Milton Nzioka, his Nairobi counterpart Margaret Lesuuda, and Luka Chebet who was the Coast RDE.
The three RDEs understandably retired between October 10 and 18 this year leaving a vacuum in the critical positions.

RDEs are charged with setting and delivering targets, operational leadership including; accountability for health and safety and budget performance in their respective regions, and ensuring that MoE guidelines and policies are adhered to in their respective regions.
They are also in charge of other MoE field officers notably the County Directors and Sub-County Directors of Education.
Another position that had fallen vacant was that of the Mombasa County Director of Education (CDE) which was being held by Gachungu James Murithi.
