Publishers approved under Kenya’s Competency-Based Education (CBE) curriculum will begin printing Grade 11 textbooks in May 2026 and deliver them to public schools nationwide by October, the Kenya Publishers Association (KPA) has announced following the Ministry of Education’s (MoE) issuance of Letters of Award.

KPA said the Letters of Award will enable the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) to issue formal contracts to successful publishers, allowing large-scale production and distribution to commence.

The association expressed appreciation to Cabinet Secretary (CS) for Education Julius Migos Ogamba and Principal Secretary (PS) for Basic Education Julius Bitok for facilitating the release of the award letters.

“This milestone is significant not only for publishers, but also for the education sector and the nation at large,” KPA said in a statement.

KPA said the October delivery window will ensure schools are fully equipped ahead of the first term opening in January 2027, eliminating the risk of shortages and delays that have previously disrupted curriculum transitions.

“As responsible stakeholders in the education sector, KPA remains committed to ensuring that high-quality, approved learning materials are accessible to all learners in good time,” the association said.

Grade 11 manuscripts were submitted to KICD on December 9, 2025. Evaluation results were released on February 10, 2026, after which approved publishers undertook a detailed quality assurance process with the institute to refine content and correct errors before receiving final approval.
