Principal Secretary for Vocational and Technical Training Dr. Dinah Mwinzi  has urged students not be ashamed of joining vocational and technical training institutes.
She said technical institutions are not meant for failures but to equip students with skills and knowledge that will help them be job creators and not seekers.
“I urge students to change their thinking that technical intuitions are for those who fail their exams but instead should embrace them as a bridge to their future careers,” she said in Eldoret recently.
“Technical institutes should not be viewed as a second option to Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) candidates who sat their examinations and have missed direct entry to universities. I, therefore, urge students to join technical institutions for them to have technical skills which are the remedy to unemployment among the youths,” she added.
She, however, said that the national government has put in place measures to ensure that all technical and vocational education training (TVET) are equipped.
“We have supplied to over 134 TVET institutions state of the art training facilities worth Sh160 billion, we want students to get quality and not quantity education that will help them earn a living,” noted Mwinzi.
