Prof Isaac Kibwage has been appointed Vice-Chancellor Egerton University in an acting capacity.

In a memo dated 20th November 2020 reference number EU/APD/R/HCA/22 to University staffs and students, Prof Kibwaga officially takes over from the troubled Prof Rose Mwonya who is on compulsory leave.

“This is to bring to the attention of all staff and students that the University Council has appointed Prof Isaac O. Kibwage to act as Vice-Chancellor with effect from Friday 20th November 2020 until further notice,” reads the memo.

“The Vice-chancellor Prof. Rose A. Mwonya has taken her pending leave as her term comes to an end on 12th January 2021,” reads the memo.

Prof Kibwage is a professor of Pharmaceutical Chemistry. Previously, he was the Principal of the College of Health Sciences at the University of Nairobi.

Having served as the Administrative, Financial and Academic head of the college responsible for research activities and with at least 39 years’ experience in the pharmaceuticals field, all eyes are on him to drive Egerton University to success.

Prof Mwonya was appointed VC for the Njoro-based university in October 2015 by the then Education Cabinet Secretary Prof Jacob Kaimenyi as the fifth VC taking over from Prof James Tuitoek.

Prof Rose A Mwonya, who was once a diploma student at the Premier Agricultural Training Institution rose through the ranks to hold the prestigious position.
