Bungoma County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for health Dr. Antony Walela has lauded President Uhuru Kenyatta for entering into an agreement with the UK government, in a move to ensure that trained nurses in Kenya can get jobs in the UK.
Speaking to the press in his office, Dr. Walela said that the agreement between the two governments will give trained but unemployed nurses from Kenya a chance to get jobs abroad.
He lauded Kibabii University in Bungoma County for offering nursing courses arguing that the move will give students from the region with a desire to pursue nursing to do so.
“Kibabii University will give chances to students from Bungoma and beyond to be trained as nurses and be absorbed by the UK government,” he added.
He affirmed that Bungoma County will partner with Kibabii University and University of Nairobi and that nursing students will carry out their practicals at Nalondo and Mechimeru health facilities.
“We have face lifted Nalondo and Mechimeru health facilities to give opportunities for nursing students to do their practicals,” he affirmed.
He encouraged trained, qualified and unemployed nurses to apply for the UK job vacancies that were advertised in national newspapers by the government of Kenya.
He further added that the health facilities in the county needed more nurses.
“Bungoma County has embarked on improving health services to ensure that residents get decent services at Bungoma county referral hospital,” he said.
