President William Ruto has announced that 4,000 National Youth Service (NYS) graduates will be absorbed into the police service as part of a recruitment drive scheduled for next month.

Speaking during the 89th NYS passing-out parade in Gilgil, where 18,000 youth graduated, the highest number in the institution’s history, Ruto said the government will recruit 10,000 new police officers, with NYS graduates guaranteed 40 percent of the slots.

The Head of State noted that the move is aimed at creating career pathways for the thousands of young people who complete NYS training every year, describing them as disciplined and well-prepared for national duty.

He further revealed that NYS alumni will also be prioritized in other sectors, including the Kenya Defence Forces and affordable housing projects under the government’s job-creation programmes.

To enhance training conditions, the President pledged to oversee the construction of a new kitchen facility at the Gilgil campus and ordered upgrades to other amenities to match the rising number of recruits.
