President Ruto mourns education reformer Prof Raphael Munavu

President William Ruto has led the nation in mourning the death of renowned scholar and public servant Prof. Raphael Munavu, describing him as a dedicated educationist whose legacy will shape Kenya’s future for generations.

In a condolence message, President Ruto hailed Prof Munavu’s unwavering commitment to education and national development, noting that his life’s work significantly advanced learning and public service in the country.

The head of state particularly recognised Prof Munavu’s role as chair of the Presidential Working Party on Education Reform, to which he was appointed in September 2022.

Under his leadership, the taskforce conducted extensive public participation and delivered key recommendations aimed at refining the Competency-Based Education curriculum (CBE) and aligning Kenya’s education system with emerging national needs.

President Ruto also praised the late professor’s leadership at the Konza Technopolis Development Authority, where he served as board chairperson.

He credited Prof Munavu with playing a key role in positioning Konza Technopolis as Africa’s “Silicon Savannah,” driving innovation and technological growth.

“As we honour his legacy, we recommit ourselves to advancing his vision of an education system that is equitable, innovative, and responsive to the aspirations of our people,” the President said.

He extended his heartfelt condolences to Prof Munavu’s family, friends, and colleagues in academia, noting that the country has lost a distinguished scholar and visionary leader.
