A police vehicle transporting Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) examination materials to several schools in West Pokot County was temporarily stranded on Thursday morning after getting stuck in the expansive Kasei River.

The vehicle, which was delivering examination papers to Korpu, Kangoletiang, Sirwach, Churum, and Sukut primary schools in Pokot North Sub-county’s Kasei Zone, became immobilized while attempting to cross the swollen river.

Examination officials and police officers accompanying the materials acted swiftly, devising alternative means to ensure that all examination centres received the materials safely and on time. Thanks to their prompt intervention, the assessment process continued without delay.

Local education officials commended the officers and the examination teams for their dedication, teamwork, and commitment to ensuring the smooth conduct of the national assessment despite the challenging terrain and adverse weather conditions that have affected parts of the region.

The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Executive Secretary for West Pokot, Martin Sembelo, lauded the officers and education officials for their swift action, noting that their efforts ensured the integrity and timely delivery of the exams was maintained.

“We appreciate the commitment of the security and education officers who worked tirelessly to ensure the examinations reached all centres safely, despite the difficult conditions,” said Sembelo.

The incident highlights the logistical challenges often faced during national examinations in remote and hard-to-reach areas, particularly during the rainy season.
