- Abong’o’s body has been taken to Yala Level IV Hospital mortuary, where it is being preserved pending a postmortem examination to establish the cause of death.
- Officers who examined the scene have found no apparent physical injuries, and police have not yet indicated whether foul play is suspected.
Police in Siaya County have launched investigations into the death of a teacher who was found dead in a rented room at a bar and restaurant in Yala Market on Wednesday evening.
Collins Abong’o, 48, was discovered in the room after visiting the premises earlier that day with three other people, including his brother. According to police, the group arrived at the establishment at about 11am and spent time there together. Although alcoholic drinks were served to the group, Abong’o is said to have appeared intoxicated and exhausted and did not take any of the drinks.
His condition reportedly deteriorated as the group remained at the restaurant, prompting his brother to arrange a room where he could lie down and rest. Abong’o was left in the room as the others continued with their activities at the premises, and it was not until about 8 pm that one of his companions went to check on him.

The companion reportedly found the teacher lying motionless on the bed and alerted others, prompting a call to police. Officers who examined the body said there were no apparent physical injuries. The circumstances leading to his death remain unclear, including what happened during the several hours he spent alone in the room.
Police processed the scene and recorded details as part of the investigation before the body was removed and taken to the mortuary at Yala Level IV Hospital, where it is being preserved pending a postmortem examination expected to establish the cause of death and provide investigators with more information on the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Police have not indicated whether any foul play has been established, and investigations are continuing.
