Peace initiative launched in Baringo to counter banditry

An initiative in Baringo is targeting to end banditry in the area through sports activities and creative arts.

The initiative dubbed ‘Lenga Ugaidi na Talanta and Epuka Ugaidi’ seeks to find long lasting solutions to peace through sports and talents.

Speaking during the launch of the programme with youth from Baringo North, Baringo South and Tiaty constituencies, Deputy Governor Felix Maiyo said youth play a critical role in reaching the community to shun harmful cultural practices like banditry.

Maiyo noted that the upcoming activities will encourage peace and unity among residents in the areas worst hit by banditry.

He said the goal of programme will empower them to find solutions through creative arts and dialogue as one way of communicating message of peace through their untapped talents.

The Deputy Governor urged youth to be on the front line in advocating peace, embrace positive vibe and energies towards the objective.

The initiative organized by the office of the Youth, Gender and Sports however will see various categories win prizes with the winner getting KSh250,000.
