Pay teachers well for a better retirement in future, union tells Govt

Lewis-Nyakweba,-Nyamira-KUPPET-Executive-Secretary

Teachers have called on the Government to pay them well so that they can enjoy their retirement after a long career in service.

Nyamira KUPPET Executive Secretary said most teachers lead miserable lives when they retire because they get peanuts for pension hence unable to lead comfortable lives.

” This is the reason why most school administrators were scared of retirement and would prefer to appeal for extension in service. If teachers can get better pension when they retire, they will not need to hang on their jobs when they attain retirement” Said Nyakweba.

He stated that teachers were the most lowly the paid civil servants in the country in spite of of their noble role in moulding the youth and appealed to the Government to consider better pay for them.

Nyakweba was speaking at St Mathews Chitago Secondary School during the handing-over ceremony of the institution’s Principal Justus Ogeto to his deputy, Joshua Kenyanya as he headed for retirement.

He congratulated the outgoing principal for the wonderful work he had done in transforming the school and wished him well as he exits teaching service.
