Parents warned of arrest for keeping children at home

Kisukioni Assistant County Commissioner Maryanne Wanjiru, who has warned parents against keeping their children at home instead of sending them to school.

Parents whose children are yet to report to school this year risk being arrested and prosecuted for disobeying a government directive.

Kisukioni Assistant County Commissioner Maryanne Wanjiru warned parents in Matungulu Sub-county, Machakos County that they will be rounded up for failure to take their children to school despite the free primary and secondary education.

“I have ordered chiefs and their assistants to arrest any parent who will disobey the government directive because we have spent billions of shillings to achieve universal education. With the 100 per cent transition from primary to secondary, no child should be at home,” she warned during a meeting with parents at Kisukioni Primary School yesterday.

She said parents have the responsibility to ensure that all children got access to education, further asking them to support policies aimed at improving education standards to give children a better education and a brighter future.
