The Kenya National Parents Association (KNPA) wants the Ministry of Education (MoE) to ensure candidates are placed in Form 1 based on merit to avoid the confusion that marred the process last year.

Bomet chairman Stephen Koskey says doing so will serve as a token of acknowledgement to the students for their hard work, as well as sort out the mess experienced in the 2022 placements.

Addressing the press, he said many students were misplaced last year where some were called to day schools far away from their homes despite their good performance.

“Last year we witnessed candidates being misplaced. Some were called to day schools located as far as Kakamega and Elgeyo Marakwet despite performing well. This must be avoided this year,” he said.

Koskei lauded the early announcement of KCPE results, saying the move will give parents enough time for preparation.

He further commended the government for the proper management of the exams, expressing confidence that candidates from the region will get good results.

“As parents, we thank Cabinet Secretary (CS) Ezekiel Machogu and his Principal Secretary (PS) Belio Kipsang for the good work. We also welcome the early announcement of results because this will enable parents to prepare well to take children to form one,” he said.

A total of 1,415,315 children wrote the exams and about 1.2 million sat the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA).
