Parents at Moi Girls High School, in Sindo, Homa Bay County staged demonstrations on Tuesday to oppose the appointment of a new principal by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), citing concerns over her alleged poor performance at a previous school.

The parents claimed that the newly posted principal, Mary Omanda, does not meet the expectations required to steer the institution to academic success.

“The principal we have been given has not reached the level they are required to be,” said Anderiku Wasongo, a parent at the school.

However, Omanda dismissed the claims, arguing that the allegations were premature since she has only served at the school for two weeks and no examinations have been conducted under her leadership.

Parents also raised concerns over the absence of a substantive deputy principal at the institution, urging the TSC to appoint qualified deputies with proven academic leadership records.

“We are asking TSC to seriously send us two substantive deputies who are competent, qualified and have a track record of ensuring students excel and transition to university,” said another parent, Medo Musama.

Omanda’s appointment follows the death of the school’s former principal, Florence Omondi, who died on January 30 while undergoing treatment at a local hospital.
