Parents of a KCSE candidate in Sironga National School have appealed for justice for their daughter who was allegedly assaulted by an examination official.
According to the DCI report, the female student was suspected to have some illicit material in the exam room. She swallowed something she was chewing when the official enquired of it, infuriating him to the point of landing on the girl with thunderous slaps.
“She moved closer and slapped the girl several times but did not recover any exhibit,” said the police report.
Her colleagues said that the girl remained uneasy in class after the morning paper until 10am when she collapsed as she sweated profusely. She was taken to the school dispensary where she got first aid and declared well.

When Education News sought to speak to the Chief Principal Jane Nyanumba, entry was denied. However, majority of the invigilators regretted what had happened to the girl.
“Some of us were caught up by circumstances as we heard the girl cry,” said one of the invigilators who did not want to be named for fear of reprisal.
He said that following the incident, security agencies from Nyamira County visited the school and launched investigations into the matter.
Nyamira County Commissioner who talked to Education News on phone called for patience from the public, asking them to be calm to enable candidates complete their examinations peacefully.
He asked parents to avoid speculations as investigations go on.
The ugly incident comes barely one month after a candidate in the school committed suicide by jumping off a storey building.
