Panic among KCPE, KPSEA candidates in Kisii surrounded by GSU officers

Givernor Arati barred from entry to his Gusii Stadium offices by GSU police.

Fear and panic has gripped the KCPE and KPSEA candidates of Kisii Primary School, located near Governor Simba Arati’s office at Gusii Stadium as they found themselves encircled by more than 50 GSU police officers.

Reportedly, Governor Arati’s arrival at his office was met with a stern denial of entry by the newly arrived officers piquing the candidates’ curiosity even more.

It took a considerable effort from invigilators and supervisors to convince the students to focus and continue their exams.

In the afternoon, the governor’s frenzied appearance in town stirred public interest, and pupils from nearby primary schools joined the onlookers.

The situation only normalized when the Governor addressed the public, assuring them of his security.

He alleged that the national Government intended to arrest him on charges of illegal firearm possession.

However, Arati declared his willingness to cooperate during daytime searches in his rural home.

Additionally, he criticized the Kisii County Commissioner, Tom Anjere, and Police Commander Charles Keses for their lack of response to his calls, given that they were his immediate security contacts.

Efforts to reach the Commissioner and Police Commander for comment were unsuccessful.

The presence of GSU officers during the examination period drew widespread criticism, with parents and local leaders urging the government to reconsider their deployment, as it disrupted the candidates’ exams.

Sospeter Mogeni, a concerned parent, emphasized that the timing of such police operations should have considered the students’ exam schedule.

Wilfred Monyenye, a Member of the County Assembly for Kisii Central Ward, condemned the GSU’s presence in town during the examination period, emphasizing that it seemed unnecessary, and called for their removal.
