Makerere University’s Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor (DVC) for Academic Affairs, Professor Bunyisa Mukadasi, has lauded the good relationship between Kenya and Uganda, saying that this has led to an increase in the number of Kenyan students seeking admission to study in Makerere.
He said that in the last two years, the university has admitted more than 1,000 students from East African Countries, but the majority are from Kenya.
“We like this trend because it encourages international cooperation among our young growing youths,” he said.
During a stopover, the DVC spoke at Isebania to meet other scholars at annual family bonding gatherings.
He said most students from Kenya who study in Uganda pursue law, computer, and international relations-related courses.
“Most of them, unlike those from Uganda and other countries, Kenyan students don’t tend to take bachelor of education courses, ” he said.

He said that computer studies, which have become necessary in all subjects, have led to a shortage of computers for more than 37,000 students at the University.
The Professor said Makerere University has 106 lecturers who depend on personal computers to provide laboratory experiments and other tutorial services. Only half of the student population has personal computers, and the rest find it difficult to study.
The don thanked the Church of Christ members who donated computers to ease teaching in the University and appealed to other well-wishers to reach out for donations.
“We need more friends to step in and help us with computers because we live interdependently; that is where the world stands, ” he said.
The Professor urged East African states to continue nurturing and fostering cooperation within the East African Community because it points to Pan-Africanism, a cherished African way of brotherhood.
