More than 100 teachers from the Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) in Kisumu County who recently welcomed newborns have received assorted items from the branch office.

Executive Secretary Zablon Awange, while issuing the gifts at his Kisumu office, said the gesture was part of the branch’s social corporate responsibility. He noted that the support would ease the burden on mothers and fathers of the young ones, especially during these challenging times.

Awange stressed that the union remains committed to safeguarding the welfare of teachers. He pledged to continue championing members’ rights, adding that issues such as hardship allowances and enhanced benefits cannot be ignored.

He explained that some of the items distributed, including household essentials, were particularly important in helping families cope with the current economic difficulties.

Turning to union politics, Awange cautioned against coercion in the forthcoming elections later this month. He accused certain education officials of attempting to influence the polls by circulating large sums of money, but insisted such schemes would not succeed.

“These tricks have been overtaken by events. Our members are well informed and will not be swayed by such tactics,” he remarked.

Awange reaffirmed that the Kisumu branch will continue to stand with its members, both in supporting their families and in defending their rights within the teaching fraternity.
