Ongata Senior School girls’ football team has emerged champions in the just concluded Kajiado County secondary school games.
The girls beat Tembea Girls High School 2:1 in the finals with goals from Nicole Muyeso and Cindy Kiranta placing the girls on top in the County for the first time.
The team will now represent the County in the Regional tournament which will be held in Nakuru County from 2nd to 4th August.
Meanwhile, their neighbor school Laiser Hill Academy who have been national champions before defeated Olkejuado High School 4:0 and will represent the County in the Boys’ soccer category.
The Ongata Senior School girls’ team coach Daniel Seka attributed the performance to hard work and discipline.
He added that the team holds training sessions five times a week and the school management provides the required support.
Seka who is an alumnus and former captain of the school introduced senior girls’ soccer in the institution in 2019 and has been nurturing them ever since.
“We played our first game in 2019 and lost to Our Lady of Mercy 6-nil. We didn’t lose hope and we have been pushing. We are ready to face other teams in the Regional tournament,” he said.
Majority of the girls have been nurtured from primary to secondary school by Ongata Soccer Academy. The transition from primary to secondary school while in the same institution has contributed greatly to the good performance.
Award winning coach Hamisi Mohamed aka ‘Kaka’ from Oloolua Ward, introduced soccer academy in the primary section of the school in the year 2019. This is after he received “Future Stars” coaching programme for two weeks in London.
He was selected competitively through public voting and trained with Arsenal’s Soccer School coaches in London.

Kaka is Kenya’s National Under 20 Football Team assistant coach and instructor at Football Kenya Federation (FKF). He now focuses in young talents development, he has been able to start a number of soccer academies in the country Ongata Soccer Academy being one of them.
He is a Technical Director in the institution and oversees training of coaches, designs sports curricula and sometimes trains both boys’ and girls’ soccer teams.
