Nyeri Town MCA Hon. Agnes Wachira has encouraged this year’s national examination candidates to face the upcoming tests with courage and confidence as she led a menstrual hygiene sensitisation session and sanitary pad donation at St. Mathew Tetu Comprehensive School.
The event, held on Monday, brought together Grade 6 and Grade 9 candidates preparing for their national examinations later this month. Wachira assured the pupils that the exams are simply a recap of what they have been learning throughout the year, urging them to believe in themselves and approach the tests with a positive attitude.

As part of the visit, Wachira — who has been at the forefront of menstrual hygiene advocacy in Nyeri County — donated sanitary pads to the girls to ensure that no candidate misses school or exams due to menstruation. She emphasised that access to sanitary products is not a privilege but a necessity for every girl, especially during such a crucial period in their education.
“Menstrual hygiene should never be a barrier to a girl’s education. Every child deserves the chance to sit their exams with dignity and confidence,” she said.
The MCA also issued a passionate appeal to parents to continue supporting their daughters beyond the exam period, especially during the upcoming December holidays. She urged families to provide sanitary products to prevent situations where vulnerable girls may fall prey to sexual predators who exploit their needs in exchange for pads, leading to teenage pregnancies and disrupted education.
“Let us all work together to protect the dreams of our girls. Something as simple as a sanitary pad should not determine their future,” Wachira added.
The visit was marked by excitement and appreciation from both teachers and students. School officials lauded the MCA’s consistent support in promoting menstrual hygiene and education, noting that such initiatives play a vital role in empowering young girls to stay in school and perform well academically.
As the national exams draw near, Wachira extended her best wishes to all candidates across Nyeri County, expressing confidence that they will excel and make their schools and communities proud.
