The official pools for the 2026 Nyanza Region Secondary Schools Sports Association Term One Ball Games have been released, setting the stage for a highly competitive championship that will be hosted at Maseno School.

The much-anticipated regional tournament will bring together top secondary school teams from across the Nyanza region to compete in handball, basketball, hockey and rugby 15s for both boys and girls. Schools will be battling not only for regional glory but also for qualification to the national championships.

According to the released draw, the girls’ handball competition will see Kadika, Simerro, Sindo and Guu placed in Pool A while Nyakach, Moore, Ndonyo and Iraha will battle in Pool B.

In the boys’ handball category, Manyatta, Mirogi, Nyambaria and Menara have been drawn in Pool A. Pool B will feature hosts Maseno alongside Yala, Kisii and Rapogi in what promises to be one of the toughest groups.

In girls’ basketball, Pool A comprises Asumbi, Tuk Jowi, Manga and Koru while Pool B features Nyakach, Kerepi, Barchando and Nyangajo.

The boys’ basketball contest will see Yala, Kisii, Rapogi and Kisumu Boys B compete in Pool A while Maseno, Nyambaria, Agoro Sare and Usenge have been drawn in Pool B.

In girls’ hockey, Ng’iya, Geke, Amaiko and Sinyolo have been placed in Pool A while Pool B consists of Huma, Agenga, Asumbi and Nyamira.

For boys’ hockey, Pool A will see Ringa, Ambira, Nyambaria and Maseno face off while Pool B features Kisumu Day, Kanyawanga, Cardinal Otunga and Oriwo.

In rugby 15s girls, Enkanda, Sigoti and Sidindi will compete in Pool A while Moi Suba, Nyagichenche and Mawego will battle it out in Pool B.

The boys’ rugby 15s category will see Kisii, Nyambaria, Yala and Maseno drawn in Pool A while Otieno Oyoo, Gendia, Anjego and Cardinal Otunga will contest Pool B.

The release of the pools has heightened anticipation across the region as teams intensify preparations ahead of the championship.

The games are expected to attract hundreds of student-athletes, coaches and supporters when they kick off at Maseno School, with fierce competition expected across all disciplines.
