Did you ever imagine flying Kenya Airways during your high school days after exceptional performance in mock exams? Most people will consider it a wild goose chase but for the centenarian Ng’iya Girls High School, it is a dream come true for its top cream of Form 4 candidates.

The institution’s A-graders left Kisumu International Airport (KIA) at 10:50 am enroute to the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) for a benchmarking mission with Loreto High School – an academic powerhouse. Quality doesn’t come cheap; we all know that!

According to the current flight rates, one will need to part with a handsome Ksh28,000 for a return air ticket from Kisumu to Nairobi. Why fly Africa’s leading business-class airline? Flying KQ was the most powerful motivation for the 2024 KCSE top-grade candidates. So powerful is the lure that it has driven competition to a whole new high amongst their peers who are now working hard to qualify for the coveted slots for a similar sojourn in 2025.

Top Ng’iya Girls students all set to fly to Nairobi for the two-day motivation tour.

After touching down at JKIA, the 10 girls in the company of the class Dean, Ms. Yvonne Gumaiya, Director of Studies, Mr. William Rakamah and the chaperone, Mr. Oumah Otienoh will then proceed to meet key figures at the Ministry of Education.

The lasses are destined to receive VIP treatment throughout their two-night stay in Nairobi courtesy of the school management led by Principal, Mrs. Hellen Masengeli.

The latter says the girls will be chauffeured from the airport and served sumptuous meals at top-notch hotels before meeting Julius Ogamba, the Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Education at Jogoo House who will certainly inspire the girls more. This all investment is a deliberate effort geared towards motivating top students to maintain and sustain their good performance as they head to the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) season.
