The alleged incident happened as Grade Six learners across the country sit the 2026 KPSEA, which began on Monday, October 26.
The number 666 is associated with the biblical Book of Revelation, particularly Revelation 13:18, which refers to the number of the beast. Some religious groups interpret it as a symbol of Satan, a belief that has caused controversy in Kenya before.
In 2019, similar concerns emerged during the rollout of the Huduma Namba registration exercise, when some religious leaders in Mombasa linked the identification number to biblical prophecies. The government dismissed claims that the registration had any connection to Satanism.
Kenya has also had cases involving parents accused of withdrawing children from school on religious grounds. In January 2019, a woman identified as Lydia Manyasi Saya was charged at Milimani Law Courts with allegedly violating her children's rights to education and healthcare, claiming that conventional education was satanic.
Under Kenya's Constitution, every child has the right to free and compulsory basic education. The Children Act also provides safeguards for children's welfare and development.
