Police officers in Kajiado County have arrested a 62-year-old man suspected of child trafficking and defilement following an intelligence-led operation in Korompoi Trading Centre, Isinya.
The suspect, identified as Peter Mwangi, was arrested after officers raided a bedsitter where they found him in the company of four children aged 17, 16, five, and one year and four months.

The discovery prompted detectives to launch further investigations to establish the circumstances under which the children came into the suspect's custody.
A subsequent search of a house linked to Mwangi in Mashuuru Township uncovered several items that investigators are examining as part of the ongoing probe. According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), officers recovered several bags containing children's clothing of different sizes, ranging from newborn to teenage wear, for both boys and girls.
Other items found at the premises included baby shawls, blankets, a baby carrier, and baby shoes of various sizes. Detectives also recovered several adult male clothes, ranging from sizes 34 to 54, neatly arranged on hangers. The search further yielded six mattresses, empty diaper carrier bags, duvets, pillows, assorted foodstuffs, and other household items.

The suspect remains in custody as detectives work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the children's presence with him and determine whether any criminal offences were committed. The four children have since been placed under appropriate care and protection and are expected to undergo medical examinations as investigators gather evidence.

In a statement, the DCI reaffirmed its commitment to protecting children and other vulnerable members of society, warning that individuals found culpable of exploiting minors would face the full force of the law. The agency said investigators would pursue every lead and scrutinise all available evidence as the inquiry continues.
