Kericho nominated MCA Issack Matker has distributed assorted foodstuffs to candidates at Kericho Day Secondary School as learners across the country completed rehearsals ahead of the 2026 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations.
The donation, made under the fifth edition of the Kapkugerwet Ward Foodstuff Distribution Initiative, seeks to ease pressure on families and address candidates' nutritional needs as they prepare for the national examinations.
Today marked the KCSE rehearsal day, giving candidates an opportunity to familiarise themselves with examination procedures, instructions and requirements ahead of the examination papers.
Matker said supporting learners during the examination period was an investment in their future, emphasising the importance of creating an environment in which candidates could concentrate on their examinations without additional pressure arising from household challenges.
“Education is one of the greatest investments we can make in the future of our children,” he said.
The nominated MCA said the food distribution was intended to complement the efforts of parents and guardians by helping address learners' nutritional needs while reducing some of the pressure on families during the examination season.
He emphasised that investing in education went beyond providing classroom opportunities, adding that learners also needed support that considered their welfare as they pursued their academic ambitions.
Community support for candidates
The initiative highlights the role community leaders can play in complementing the efforts of teachers, parents and school administrators in supporting learners during critical stages of their education.
With candidates now moving from rehearsals to the examination papers, support from families and communities remains important in helping them approach the exercise with confidence and focus.
Matker reaffirmed his commitment to programmes that put learners first, strengthen families and open doors to greater opportunities through education.
The Kapkugerwet Ward Foodstuff Distribution Initiative is now in its fifth edition, with the latest intervention targeting candidates at Kericho Day Secondary School as they prepare to sit their national examinations.
The programme reflects efforts to link community support with learners' welfare, recognising education as a key investment in the future of children and the wider community.
