Kereri Girls High School in Kisii County is mourning teacher Elmelda Bosire, who colleagues say was preparing to retire after many years in the teaching profession.
The school community has paid tribute to Bosire, remembering her as an educator who guided younger teachers as well as learners.
In a tribute shared by a colleague identified as Erick, he recalled a conversation in which Bosire encouraged him to approach his work with commitment, humility and faith in God.
She told him that as a young teacher, he had a responsibility to serve diligently and put God first so that he could finish his professional journey well.
"Mr Erick, you are a young teacher. Do this work of teaching diligently and put God first to help you finish well. As for me, I have finished my course and I am going into retirement," she told him.
The tribute described Bosire as a mentor who understood the importance of preparing younger educators to take on the responsibility of nurturing learners and serving society. Colleagues at the school say they are holding on to her words as they come to terms with her death.
