Egerton University students have been urged to return to campus and prepare for the resumption of academic activities amid optimism that negotiations over the ongoing lecturers’ strike could yield a breakthrough.

In an internal memo dated October 19, 2026, the Egerton University Students’ Association (EUSA) said it was hopeful that the negotiations would lead to a positive outcome soon, allowing normal academic activities to resume.

Students announce Freshers’ Night

The association also announced that Freshers’ Night, an event intended to welcome new students, would be held on Friday, October 30.

The event is expected to bring students together, strengthen unity and help restore campus life following disruptions caused by the strike.

In the memo addressed to all students, the Students’ Governing Council encouraged those who had travelled home to make arrangements to return to campus ahead of the anticipated resumption of lectures.

Students already on campus were advised to remain there as they prepared to welcome their colleagues and participate in the planned activities.

Association calls for unity and resilience

The association said the gathering would provide an opportunity to celebrate resilience and reinforce solidarity among students as they look forward to returning to normal academic routines.

The notice was signed by EUSA official Wickliffe Majiwa and copied to the Dean of Students, the Students’ Governing Council, student congress representatives and class representatives.

However, the planned Freshers’ Night comes as students await an official resolution to the lecturers’ strike, which has disrupted learning at the university.

The association’s announcement signals growing optimism among students, although the actual resumption of lectures will depend on the outcome of negotiations between the parties involved in the dispute.
