Teachers in Bomet County are in mourning after the deaths of two colleagues, and the local KUPPET branch has called for a countywide prayer day to seek comfort, healing and protection for educators and their families.
The deceased are Mr Daniel Kiprotich Tonui of Kimuchul Senior School in Bomet East and Madam Joan Chebet Kirui of Changina Junior School in Bomet Central.
In a condolence message, the Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) Bomet branch chairman, Emmanuel Ngeno, sent his sympathies to the bereaved families, colleagues, learners and school communities.

He described the two as dedicated professionals who served learners with commitment and passion, and said their deaths were a major loss to the education sector and the wider community.

Ngeno said the teaching fraternity had suffered a series of misfortunes in recent months, with some teachers and their relatives also admitted to hospitals.

He wished those receiving treatment a quick and full recovery and urged teachers to stand together and support colleagues going through difficult times.

He proposed that a countywide prayer day be held as soon as possible so that teachers can come together to seek divine intervention.

He also encouraged teachers to pray in their families and churches as they seek strength to cope with bereavement and other challenges.
The union leadership has urged members to give emotional and spiritual support to the affected families and colleagues.
