New varsity funding model discriminates needy students, former MP says

MP

Former Kitutu Masaba MP Timothy Bosire has decried the high cost of university education in the country.

Speaking to Education News during a funds drive ceremony at Omobera Boarding Primary School in Kisii, Bosire argued that the new funding model hugely disadvantages students from humble backgrounds.

He appealed to the government to provide a level ground for university students who applied for funds from the Higher Education Loans Board.

“Many students fail to continue their tertiary education because of lack of funds,” he said, further warning universities against increasing fees.

The former MP appealed to the government to release more funds to finance education and to improve infrastructure at institutions of higher learning.
