The release of 2021 KCSE results last week caused a lot of anxiety among candidates as well as their parents and guardians.
Simon Mavii Kituku was among the anxious candidates who were waiting for their results. The boy, who scored 221 marks in his KCPE exams, surprised many by scoring B plain in KCSE.
Education Cabinet Secretary Prof George Magoha announced, during the release of KCSE last week, that Simon was the third most improved candidate nationally.

The CS further urged parents to embrace the sub county schools in their locations adding that most of such schools are doing well and producing the most improved students nationally. He pointed out that Kambusu ABC day secondary school in Matungulu, Machakos county had performed well in the exams.
On the other hand, Mavii said that he couldn’t believe that he had performed so well. He thanked God for being with him throughout his studies.
He went on to add that through God’s grace, he will even achieve greater heights.
“I experienced so many challenges that I couldn’t believe I had performed well. I stayed out of school most of the times while in Form One and Form Three due to lack of school fees. I can’t even count the number of times I went to school hungry,” he said.
He went on to add that he lacked textbooks and even borrowed a faulty calculator during Maths exams but still he passed.
Mavii expressed concern that he might not join university owing to the financial problems in his family.
He called upon well-wishers to chip in and help him realize his dreams of becoming a teacher.
His parents Rose and Joseph Kituku could not hide their joy at their son’s performance.
The parents, who depend on menial jobs, said their son is bright, disciplined and hardworking. They appealed for any financial support to ensure Mavii joins university.
