Bungoma County Woman MP Catherine Wambilianga has issued Ksh 6.8 million in bursary cheques to 982 needy and bright students drawn from 298 schools in the county.

Speaking at Moi Girls High school Kamusinga in Kimilili on Saturday, Wambilianga noted that the bursaries aim at supporting needy but bright students to continue their education.

She urged school heads to liaise with her office to ensure that students from poor backgrounds are supported to join high schools, colleges and universities of their choice.

The Ford Kenya MP added that her office is determined to return teen mothers to school whilst warning pedophiles preying on school going girls that if found they shall face the full force of the law.

She added, “I have used my own money to support girls who failed to join university to proceed with their education.”

Wambilianga decried the high number of Sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGBV) cases and called on girls and women to not shy off from reporting men who assault them and urged stakeholders to unite in the fight.

“In my second term as the county woman MP, I’m going to ensure that I end SGBV and teenage pregnancies. I want to ensure that my girls continue with their education,” the Woman Rep said.
