Narok South parents hail MP as land purchase ends pupils’ long walk to school

Narok South MP Kitilai Ntutu addressing residents during a community meeting.

Parents from the Oriongos area in Sogoo Ward, Narok South, have expressed their heartfelt gratitude to area Member of Parliament, Kitilia Ntutu, for purchasing land for a local school.

The elated parents observed that the move, which they had waited for many years, had brought hope to their children’s education.

Speaking to the media earlier this week, said that a prolonged lack of school land had stalled learning efforts for years, with several attempts to acquire land yielding no results.

“Our children were forced to walk several kilometres to access education,” said one parent. “Many of them arrived late and tired, while some couldn’t attend school at all.”

With land now secured, the residents are urging the government and other stakeholders to fast-track the construction of classrooms to ensure uninterrupted learning.

“We are requesting urgent action in building more classrooms,” said another parent. “This will give our children a stable and conducive learning environment.”

According to Standly Kirui, chairman of the school, the institution was established in 2023, and so far, one classroom has been completed, thanks to the support of MP Ntutu.

“We are very grateful to the MP. Without this land, the dream of this school would still be on hold,” Kirui said.

Teachers at the school, led by Loreen Siele, echoed the same sentiments, celebrating the positive changes since the land was secured.

“Previously, pupils arrived late or missed school entirely,” said Siele. “Now, they are getting to school on time, and the attendance has improved significantly.”

However, the teachers are also calling for more support, including the recruitment of additional teaching staff and expansion of the school’s land to allow the construction of more classrooms.

“We still need more teachers and space,” Siele added. “We hope the government and well-wishers will help us build on this progress.”

The development marks a major step forward for the community, which has long struggled to access quality education for its children.
