The Teachers Service Commission has reshuffled school leadership in Murang’a, with the latest change involving Mumbi Girls High School Principal Esther Wambugu.

Wambugu, who also serves as the Murang’a Chairperson of the Kenya Secondary School Heads Association, has swapped positions with her Masii Girls counterpart, Margaret Njeru.

TSC and Education officials, led by the directors, presided over the handing over exercise between Wambugu and her incoming colleague, Njeru, on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, afternoon.

In the past week, there were efforts to have the transfers revoked, as the TSC stood its ground, before the handing over dates were identified, as the parties had agreed.

Wambugu was posted to the school in 2015 from Githambia  Secondary school in Gatanga Sub-county, and was elected the Murang’a KESSHA chairperson in March last year, defeating Humprey  Kariuki, the principal at Githumu Boys High School.

The transfer follows last year’s tug of war between the Mumbi Girls and Murang’a County Government over the proposal to develop Mumbi grounds into a national stadium, as the school management declined to surrender the earmarked two acres of land for the project.

At Kenol and Murang’a towns KESSHA members campaigned as the members sought to identify the replacement of Wambugu.

They accused Wambugu of allegedly being behind the mysterious transfer of the principals suspected to have parted ways with her in the Kessha management and ideologies.

In the handing over process, the education officers went through the details on the school enrolment, inventory, among others, in accordance with the laid down procedure in an exercise that ended at 5pm.
