A new era of student governance has begun at Multimedia University of Kenya (MMU) after freshly elected officials of the Multimedia University of Kenya Students Association (MUKSA) were sworn into office on March 18, 2026, at the university’s Conference Hall, capping an election process that ran from March 2 to March 5.
Malcomx Descartes Odhiambo emerged from a hotly contested race as the new MUKSA Chairperson, with Nyangeri Julian Nyanchama elected to serve as his deputy. Odhimbo Omanga Felix was elected Secretary General.
The full executive team includes Abubakar Fugicha Happi as Finance Secretary, Otieno Jackline Achieng as Secretary for Academics, Clubs and Societies, Amoke Ezekiel Omondi as Secretary for Sports and Entertainment, and Omondi Evance Odongo as Secretary for Special Needs, Environment and Health.
At the swearing in ceremony, Vice Chancellor (VC) Prof. Rosebella Maranga called on the incoming leaders to anchor their tenure in service rather than personal ambition.
“I urge you to let your leadership be servant-driven, defined by service, dialogue and solutions. Work collaboratively with lecturers, Dean of Students, university management, and fellow students,” Prof. Maranga said.

She also recognised the outgoing MUKSA administration, crediting it with a tenure defined by stability and maturity.
“I commend the outgoing MUKSA officials for their dedicated service. I equally applaud the entire student body for their peaceful and responsible participation during the election period,” she said.
Deputy Vice Chancellor Administration, Finance and Planning Prof. Geoffrey Kihara assured the new leadership of the university administration’s readiness to engage and work with student representatives. Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic Affairs, Research and Innovation Prof. Livingstone Ngoo urged the officials to ground their decisions in facts and context as they take on matters affecting students.
Dean of Students Dr. Paul Obonyo, who had earlier described the elections as free, fair and transparent despite isolated incidents during the public debate stage, reiterated his confidence in the student body’s political maturity and responsible conduct throughout the process.
In his first remarks as Chairperson, Malcomx pledged that the council would prioritise academic advancement, security, hostel conditions and overall student welfare, and committed to working closely with university management to deliver on those fronts.
The elections also produced a full MUKSA Congress drawn from across university faculties and student groupings. Phenias Antony Omondi will represent the Faculty of Business and Economics (FoBE), Angel Francis David Muli will represent Media and Communication (FAMECO), Nyakuru Sakari will represent Science and Technology (FoST), and Opruto Abigail Omweno will represent the Computer and Information Technology (FoCIT).
