As majority of needy students from Mt Kenya region depend on bursary kitty for their education, Gichugu MP Githinji Gichimu has asked the Government to add funds to the kitty.
Speaking while issuing bursary kitty to principals, parents at the CDF offices in Kianyaga, Gichimu supported the move by Governors from Mt Kenya region who are reviving the ‘One man, one vote, one shilling’ formula of funds allocation citing there is no equity in distribution of resources.
He said that the population in the region receive little allocation compared to other counties.
Gichimu stated that Mt Kenya region is disadvantaged when it comes to its population and resource allocation saying, if the National Government adds more money, there will be equitable share realised in the region.
“I support Governors, legislatures who have revived the ‘One man, one vote, one shilling’ formula of funds allocation idea in resource allocation, as Mt Kenya we have been disadvantaged when it comes to sharing bursaries,” Gichimu stated.
He said that last financial year through NG-CDF KSh42 million was used to sponsor needy students citing that the 2023/2024 year’s allocation has used KSh55 million.
“Gichugu NG-CDF has used KSh55 million to sponsor needy students, this is after it was increased, last financial year we paid KSh42 million,” Gichimu added.

On his part, Mutithi Ward Representative Jinaro Jamumo sponsored 4,000 students at KSh7 million.
Jinaro said as the learners go back to school, the allocation will be a boost to their education.
He said as the county plan the 2024/2025 there will be addition on the allocation from KSh7,000 to KSh10,000.
“I will add bursary allocation from KSh7,000 to KSh 10,000 so as to boost education of our students in the 2024/2025 budgets,” said Jamumo.

“I will support their education, all through I have to ensure they complete their education,” said Njamumo.
He also supported the proposal for the National Government to add more funds to counties so as to reach many needy students.
“I support the proposal to have more money added to counties so that we can also have an additional to our bursaries so that we can reach many students,” he added.
He also asked parents to take the initiative of taking their children to technical courses saying their education is supported.
“Parents take your children for technical courses in technical schools, grab the opportunity the courses will be paid for,” he added.
