Mourners gather to bury long-serving teacher who died after short illness

The late Mark Nyakora

Mourners gathered in Nyabiosi Village of Nyaribari Masaba Constituency as they joined the teaching fraternity to bury Mark Nyakora, a long-serving teacher who died after a short illness.

Kisii KUPPET under their chairman Laban Ouko led the public to give the late Nyakora a befitting send off.

When he stood to introduce KUPPET officials from the eleven sub-counties, Ouko took the opportunity to pour out teachers’ grievances, especially on promotions.

He wondered why deputies are kept in that position as a principal is sought to lead the institutions instead of promoting them (deputies).

Ouko asked the CS for Education Dr Ezekiel Machogu to intervene and rescue the affected teachers from that kind of intellectual degradation.

Masimba Ward MCA Bousi Mairura supported them, saying that teachers, like any other civil servant, need job progression.

Thousands of mourners who attended the funeral praised the deceased teacher as a man with a vision for education development.

They asked other teachers to copy him by embracing hard work, love for their students and resilience as the only way to fill the wide gap he had left.

Until his death, the late Nyakora was a teacher of English for a long time in different schools, ending his sojourn in Ekware Secondary School in Masaba South.

Elsewhere, Majority Leader in the National Assembly Ndindi Nyoro has said the government will confirm 600 intern teachers in Kisii County as permanent and pensionable employees.

Nyoro, who is also Kiharu MP, was speaking at new Nyamiobo Catholic Parish on Saturday during its inauguration.
