Most retain seats in Kakamega KESSHA elections as Michael Amukowa remains Chair

Kakamega County KESSHA Chairman Michael Amukowa has been re-elected for another term.

Michael Amukowa Ochiel has retained the Kakamega County KESSHA Chair position after trouncing his competitor Sylvester Ashioya by a margin of 117 votes, garnering 244 against 127.

Quick to thank his colleagues for their confidence in his leadership, Amukowa promised to unite the region and cooperate with all education stakeholders in the county to improve the standards of education.

“I thank God for this day. I promise to serve you all as we unite for the key purpose of improving the standards of education in all our schools in Kakamega County. KESSHA is a professional body and we have proved that by conducting a free, fair and transparent election and we should maintain unity as Kakamega County principals,” he said.

On his part, Ashioya congratulated the winner and thanked the delegates for showing maturity during the elections.

“I have accepted the results; we will give our advice to our colleagues who have been elected so that we unite as one county to improve our welfare and education standards,” said Ashioya.

George Wekesa also retained his position as Vice Chair after shrugging off Patricia Lugadiru 234 to 139 votes, as did Otieno Osore as Secretary who overcame Ouma John David 280 to 90.

Roselida Muyeshi also retained the position of Assistant Secretary by getting 209 votes while Malika Habil got 165.

Gladys Modoi retained her post of Treasurer with 242 votes against Malika’s 130.

In an election that everyone got back their positions, the other results were as follows:

Assistant Treasurer – Dr Elizabeth Waseka – 214 against Anekeya Aleander’s 87 and Violet Musotsi’s 71

Organising Secretary – Jane Opati – 206 against Pitia Rombosia and Obanda Masanga’s 49 and 120 respectively

Assistant Organising Secretary – Samwel Ogola – 281 against Judith Omukoba’s 88

Academic Chair – Omollo Hesborne – 254 against Latan Leonard Imbosa’s 112

Welfare Chair – Janerose Kibaba – unopposed

Assistant Welfare Chair – Reba Nechesa – 220 against Manoh Malenya’s 159

The County TSC Director was the Returning Officer. She applauded aspirants for their maturity and urged them to remain united and focus on how to improve their schools.

Kakamega County Director of Education was also present during the elections, which were held at the conclusion of their conference at Legacy Hotel in Nakuru City attended by over 400 principals from all the Kakamega sub-counties.
