Monari appointed new Universities Fund CEO

Geoffrey Monari has been appointed the Chief Executive Officer for Universities Fund in an appointment that took effect from 16th October 2020.

Monari takes over from Milton Njuki who has been acting CEO since 2016. Previously, Monari worked as the Chief Operations Manager at Higher Education Loan Board (HELB).

Monari holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree and MBA from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT). He is also a board director of the Institute of Economic Affairs.

He has served in the HELB in various capacities since 1997. He was managing the loan repayment and recovery department from 2009 to December 2016.

Monari has attended several courses on Credit and Debt Management both locally and internationally, prosecution and investigation at the CID Training School, Senior Management Leadership Program at Strathmore Business School among other training besides being an ISO 9001-2008 Internal Auditor and a Trustee of HELB Staff Retirement Scheme.

The Universities Fund (UF) was established under section 53 of the Universities Act, 42 of 2012 to provide funds for financing universities in Kenya.

It is managed by a Board of Trustees whose functions include; advising the Cabinet Secretary on matters of university education funding, develop transparent and fair criteria for allocation of funds to universities in consultation with the Cabinet Secretary.

Monari in consultation with the Chairs of Councils of public universities will oversee the smooth implementation of the Maximum Differentiated Unit Cost (DUC) for the programs offered in various universities countrywide.

Implementation of the DUC has been running for about two years now and Monari is expected to enhance its rollout.
