Mombasa 5,000 students to pilot value-based education

Embracing value based education will nurture integrity in the country.

Dream Achievers Youth Organization (DAYO), programmes co-coordinator, Enos Opiyo, said such education system will inculcate positive values among young people.

He noted that the programme, which is in its pilot phase, will be rolled out in five schools in Mombasa County.

Opiyo pointed out countries that have embraced value based education have been able to contain social ills including corruption and other forms of impunity.

DAYO Board chairperson, Ali Komora, urged parents to maintain virtues which they should teach their children.

He said the programme is geared towards changing deeply rooted immoral behaviours especially in the contemporary society.

“Parents should serve as good examples. They are the ones who shape up the behaviours of their children,” he said.

Mohammud Abdillahi, a Council of Imams and Preachers of Kenya (CIPK) official, appealed to the government to enforce stringent laws on internet users.

According to him the internet has impacted the society both positively and negatively.

The value based education programme targets 5,000 boys and girls in five primary schools in Mombasa County.
