A section of Moi University students have expressed their disappointments and anger after the speculations that a graduation ceremony which was supposed to be held in June 2024, has been pushed to December.

Some students sharing their feeling with Education News criticised the University’s decision of having the graduation pushed to forward saying that this will negatively affect their lives.

The students said they joined the institution in 2019 graduation ceremony

19, hoping to graduate early enough to start job search but all has remained futile.

“We joined the University under the 2019 cohort and completed our classes in December 2023, after which we were assured of graduation in June 2024. But Now speculations are all over that the graduation ceremony has been pushed to December because of lack of fund,” the students said.

The students expressed their worries of getting their certificates in 2025, saying the University should fast track the graduation ceremony as some are finding it hard to convince their parents and guardians who think they never completed their studies or even embezzled their academic monies.

They say they have wasted a whole year (January-December 2024) because most of the students have incomplete transcripts making it difficult to use them anywhere.

The students are appealing to the Ministry of Education to intervene saying it is unfair and inhumane for the institution to force the 2019 cohort to wait for those in the 2020 cohort for graduation.

“It has been discussed in the Council meeting and recorded in the University statutes that there will be one graduation this year for the students who joined in Year 2019 and 2020, in December. Changing that is impossible,” the students quoted a senior university officer saying.

Despite all the speculations in the air, the University has remained silent and there is no official statement they have released to the students concerning graduation ceremony.

The 46th graduation ceremony dates which is supposed to be for the 2019 remains in the dark.
