Moi University administration has expressed willingness to engage in dialogue with the local community to ease tensions and hostilities that have been brewing for some time now.

On Monday, September 27, protestors called for the removal of the Vice Chancellor (VC) Isaac Kosgey, citing poor management and inept leadership.

The demonstrators expressed their support for the institution’s former acting VC Laban Ayiro, whom they consider the most effective leader Moi University has ever had.

Addressing the media today, November 30, Senior Lecturer Professor Masibo Lumala stated that the university administration is prepared to engage in dialogue with the community to address concerns raised during the protests.

Exuding readiness to mend the frosty relationship, Lumala emphasized the importance of involving the community in planning and celebrating the varsity’s 40th anniversary next year for a peaceful co-existence.

“We will definitely want to involve the community in the planning and celebrating Moi University at 40 next year. We wouldn’t want to have a scenario where the university has challenges with the local community,” Lumala said.

He also mentioned that some concerns raised by residents had already been addressed.

He expressed the university’s desire to contribute to a happy, vibrant and empowered community through the opportunities offered.

Among the issues raised were allegations of alcohol and drug abuse within Moi University, with accusations that the current VC had turned a blind eye to the menace.
