The Ministry of Education (MoE)  is set to establish a Creative Arts Talent Academy aimed at identifying and nurturing artistic potential among learners across the country.

Education Cabinet Secretary Migosi Ogamba announced that the ministry will collaborate with stakeholders and a team of experts to develop a comprehensive program for the academy.

The initiative aligns with the Competency-Based Education (CBE), promoting creativity, self-expression, and talent development.

Speaking at the Kenya National Music Festival held at Meru School, Meru County, the CS emphasised the importance of harnessing the untapped talents exhibited by different participants, from junior secondary to university level.

“I am impressed by the talent showcased here, from the youngest learners in junior secondary school to university level. We must harness these talents that often go untapped. Music festivals like this build learners’ confidence and help instil core values such as discipline, perseverance, dedication, hard work, association, and unity,” said Ogamba.

The ongoing festival, which drew participation from over 140,000 learners, will conclude tomorrow.

According to the CS, Music festivals are fundamental and instrumental in promoting teamwork and collaboration among students.

“Music festivals promote and preserve our rich and diverse cultures. They also help learners become holistic individuals, equipping them with knowledge and skills relevant to real-life situations,” he added.

Ogamba added that the government, through the Ministry of Education, will increase funding to support the development of the academy and similar talent-nurturing programs.
