MKU Rwanda launches memoir, unveils name of hospitality hotel

Mount Kenya University Rwanda (MKUR) has officially launched its memoir, documenting the institution’s journey since establishment of the cross-border campus in Rwanda in 2010.

The memoir titled “Mountain Meets Land of a Thousand Hills” tells the history of the university’s entry into Rwanda and its successes so far.

The book is a step-by-step account of Mount Kenya University’s epic journey into Rwanda and features interviews with Rwandan and Kenyan personalities, as well as university alumni.

It details how the university started with a small town campus in Kigali to the establishment of the ultra-modern MKU Rwanda.

Senator Prof. Ephrem Kanyarukiga, who presided as the Chief Guest, highly commended the Chairman, Board of Directors and Founder, Prof Simon Gicharu for the commitment to increase access to quality university education in the region.

He said the memoir is informative, inspirational and will serve as a good reference in libraries, archives, and schools.

On his part, Prof. Gicharu said institutions of higher learning have a responsibility to document their own history for the sake of future generations.

“We hope that this book will be a first edition and will be periodically updated to not only tell the story of MKUR, but also of the beautiful country, Rwanda,” he said.

He thanked the government of the Republic of Rwanda for the enabling environment that has catalyzed the university’s progress to offer much needed skills to the nation.

MKUR also unveiled the name of its hospitality training hotel, Kigali Paramount hotel, which is presently under construction.

Recently, the university was voted the best institution in hospitality management training. The ultra -modern hotel will add to the academic resources needed to offer practical training.
