Metkei Girls High School in Keiyo South Sub-county of Elgeyo Marakwet County is putting in place elaborate plans geared towards ensuring that they join the national stage elites in 2021 KCSE examinations. It has already set its mean target at 8.9 from the current 8.3 in 2020 KCSE examinations.
They are also planning the transition rate to university to 98 percent. Previously, out of the 146 students, 134 students attained a mean grade of C+ and above to join university under the government-sponsored programme.
The principal, Mrs Rosemary Kutto, announced these plans during a colourful Prayer Day ceremony held at the school grounds. She exuded confidence that the concerted efforts of teachers and candidates will produce the results, revealing that they have a strong 2022 class.
She commended the students for being disciplined and diligent in their work, saying it was commensurate to academic excellence.
Mrs Kutto stated that they have put in place measures to prepare students, which include team teaching, thorough revisions by use of quality examination materials, and clustering of students based on their abilities.
She said with a school population of 950, they are projecting to hit 1,200 next year.
The Principal said they are looking forward to Covid-19 normalcy to enable students participate in co-curricular activities and inter-school competitions, noting that the school is a national champion in drama and music.
The Principal thanked the school Chaplaincy and the Guidance and Counselling department for being instrumental in shaping the students character and discipline.
They also play a mentorship role for the neighbouring Kapmwosor Primary School by inviting them to join in some of their programmes, such as the prayer day event.
Present was the Board Chairman Mr Anderson Cheptachei who commended the principal for the good plans for the school. He assured of the full Board support in all programmes, including engaging the local leadership to ensure constant supply of water. The area MCA Hon Philip Chebolei, also present, promised his office’s support to that end.
