MCA raises concern over the financial year budget appropriations in Education Sector

Kakamega County Assembly’s budget and Appropriations Committee Chairperson Gildon Shioso has raised concern over the financial year budget 2025- 2026 which states that each Sub County to have two Early Childhood Development, (ECD) centers

Addressing the media during the public participation in Kakamega Shioso, affirmed that ECD is under projects of the ward based, and the MCA is at liberty to plan the setup of his ward

“There is one who will want to prioritize construction of ECD center in his ward, others would wish to start with hospitals, roads. Therefore, it’s the wish of the MCA to plan as they wish,” reaffirmed the Chairperson.

At the same time the MCA stated that disbursement of bursaries is beyond the county government right now adding that every citizen knows the matter is in public domain

Bursaries crisis as it’s in court between the 47 counties and the controller of budget, he argued that, it should be a national government function in order to be addressed well

He further stated that the delay in the disbursement of county bursaries has made governors now to fight for the rights of the public being close to them underscoring the need of supporting their children in education.

Shioso pointed out bursaries as a major challenge which the majority of the public, are passing through at the moment

“That is the dialogue on- going but until now bursaries has not been disbursed, is not only in Kakamega County alone, but in all the 47 Counties.” Shioso revealed
