Maseno School is set to celebrate 120 years of existence this year, marking a major milestone in the history of one of Kenya’s most prestigious learning institutions.
Chief Principal Peter Otieno has confirmed that preparations for the anniversary celebrations are underway, saying the milestone offers an opportunity to reflect on the school’s rich heritage and outstanding achievements over the last 12 decades.
Founded in 1906, the national boys’ school has grown into a symbol of academic excellence, discipline and holistic education. Over the years, Maseno School has consistently posted impressive results in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE), firmly positioning itself among the country’s leading academic institutions.
The school has produced generations of accomplished alumni who have excelled across diverse fields, including engineering, medicine, law, aviation, academia, education and public service, both locally and internationally. Its strong academic tradition has earned Maseno the reputation of being the “home of brains” and a nurturing ground for the boy child.
Beyond the classroom, Maseno School has distinguished itself as a powerhouse in sports and co-curricular activities. The institution is widely regarded as a benchmarking centre in rugby, hockey, football, basketball and athletics, with its teams frequently featuring in regional and national competitions. The school has also posted strong performances in drama, music and debate, underscoring its commitment to producing well-rounded learners.

Mr Otieno noted that the school’s sustained success has been driven by teamwork and close collaboration between the school administration, the Board of Management, teachers, students, parents and a vibrant alumni network.
As part of the 120th anniversary celebrations, the school is expected to host a series of activities bringing together past and present stakeholders to honour the institution’s founders and celebrate its enduring legacy. The celebrations will also provide a platform to outline Maseno School’s future vision in line with evolving educational demands.
